No Comfort Zones for Moms

It’s hard for moms to get into a comfort zone because there are always new and improved ways for moms to make mistakes. Here’s a modest sample from my bucket of memories;

  • Driving into the side of the hospital after an appointment with my obstetrician, who had just delivered the unsettling news that I might be carrying twins.

  • Starting to mix a batch of bread in the largest container I had at the time, which was an 8-cup mixing bowl.

  • Taking my eyes off our three-year-old son while he was pushing a stroller in a crowd of 100,000 at a Washington D.C.
  • Fourth of July fireworks celebration.

  • Forgetting to tell a vanload of teenagers when and where to meet after dropping them off at the Twin Falls Mall.

  • Driving ten miles in the direction of home before discovering I had left our five-year-old son at church.

  • Putting a gallon container of honey on the bottom shelf of the cupboard.

  • Telling our son he did NOT have to go to the bathroom right this very minute.

  • It’s reassuring to know that other moms goof up, too. My sister-in-law transcribed a favorite lasagna recipe for her newlywed daughter but wrote ¼ "cup" pepper instead of ¼ "teaspoon." The happy couple reported that the lasagna was "pretty spicy."

    One of the benefits of being a mom is that most mistakes are made "in the family." In that case, we get plenty of chances to make corrections.
